The Fischers

Our involvement with Rottweilers and the RWBA (Rottweiler Working and Breeding Association) started in 1988 when we bought our first Rottweiler.   It followed after a very interesting TV program that concerned Aptitude testing of dogs and more specifically Rottweilers. There and then we decided that we could identify with this breed. Especially when looking at the character and demeanor of the dog. About at this time we also bought a small holding east of Pretoria and we needed a dog with strong protection instincts. Especially in the times that we are living in now!

Our first Rottie

"Tama" better known as "Tone" was our first 5 week old Rottie baby. She went to work with me and a very special bond developed and even at the age of 11 years, she was my shadow. We took her to obedience training and soon she was a favorite picking up her lead and running with it in her mouth with a "recall" after a "stay". When she was two years old, our first human baby, Hannes, was born. Her outstanding temperament was prominent as she would lay besides the carry-cot and wouldn’t allow anybody near it besides Johann and myself. He was her baby. She distinct herself as a wonderful working dog on the small-holding. Her joy in life was to collect the sheep and put them in their overnight shed. She would zigzag behind them until they are in the shed and then stand in the gate waiting for me to come and close it.

Our first litter

In 1992 she had her first litter and we kept the smallest pup Boschkop Bismark. He, as all our other dogs that followed, finished his advanced obedience training at the RWBA and was part of the RWBA show group.

Whilst looking for German bloodlines, we decided to use the Bennet's dog, Kondor von der Flugschneise of Tankerville, as a mate for "Tone". From this litter Boschkop Bruné was born. Immediate we decided to keep her. We talk about her as the "tiger", because of her ability to be soft in nature and at the same time to be able to work hard. Her motherly love and patience with pups is hard to imagine. I can still clearly remember one  winters day how she started giving birth without me being close. She came running into the house with a small bundle of grass (or rather a newly born puppy with dead grass clinging to his body) in her mouth, straight towards me where I was talking on the telephone. Just as if she was saying: "Come on, the babies are on their way!" Then she turned around and walked straight to her whelping box.

Our dogs and children

A very special bond developed between Bismark and Bruné. Their favorite task is to put the 6 horses into their stables. If one of the horses go into the wrong stable, they will stand as bark in front of it until the horse will come out and then chase the horse into the correct stable. We work with all our Rotties together on the small-holding. From very small they must learn to accept and respect the sheep, geese, horses and two "barn cats". In August 1995 our daughter Corlia was born and at the same time we bought a puppy Bezville Erna from Tommie and Diana. Like all our other Rotties she is very good with the children and she is very obedient. At the age of 3 she passed her Breed Assessment and we bred from her two beautiful litters of whom Bismark was the father and one litter where Bandit .

In August 1996 Boschkop Fritz was born and claimed his portion of the Fischer household. A charmer he is, like Johann will always say " Hy is my GOUD___ " (Directly translated meaning he is my golden ass boy). His nickname is Baby as he is the youngest male although he weight approximately 55 kg. He passed his BA at the age of 23 months. Yes, there is still more to come, June 1998 Boschkop Heidi was born and she is "on wheels". She has a very strong character and would stand her ground even to old Granny Tone.

We have quite a few different animals on the small holding, making it very important that the dog's temperament is very good. Especially when mixing farm animals, small kids and dogs. Our kids play with the dogs. Corlia would "bury" the 7 year old Bismark in her sandpit so that only his head and neck was visible. Not many dogs will allow this, but for Bismark this was great fun. Meantime Hannes, Heidi and Fritz is seeing who can dig the deepest hole. The amount of patience that is displayed by the older dogs towards the children and even the puppy dogs is for us a very important harmony. This is how nature intended it to be. The highlight of the day is when everybody goes for an evening stroll on the small holding. The dogs will chase rabbits. There is just no end to the amount of exercise that they get. When Johann took out the rifle, Bismark knew what was about to happen. He started to jump up and down like a young puppy. When the shot was fired, he would run like a deadly retriever to fetch the guinea fowl that was just shot.

On the 4th of November 1999 - Bismark died of osteosarcoma. For us this was very tragic, but luckily four days before he died, he mated with Erna and nine beautiful puppies were born, five males and four bitches. They were gorgeous! It was as if he said to us:" Choose the best , I must go now. This is the best I can do!"  We kept a bitch by the name of Karla and a male called Keizer. They are really stunning !!

And then Quatro, an offspring from Keizer and Heidi has joined us on the 24th of November 2002. True to his name, he is ploughing his way into the family, a great little guy who scored 6 three's on his Paffenberger puppy test and is afraid of nothing.

A setback, old Tone also left us in February 2000 at the joyful age of 11year and 3months. Subsequently Bismark, Brune, Erna, Karla and Irmgard has also passed away. We treasure their memories, miss them dearly, but they live on in their children and grandchildren.

Why do we breed and train Rottweilers?

We would like other people to experience the same joy and love from this beautiful breed as we are blessed with every day and obviously to improve the breed !!!

The RWBA

Johann has been a RWBA Trainer now for some time.  Letsie has been elected as the treasurer of the RWBA.  Letsie has been handling the RWBA's Puppy socializing group in Pretoria with great success. It is a huge challenge to mould the characters of these young puppies. But is the greatest reward when a young puppy with an obvious character problems is "changed" to grow up as well mannered, confident puppies after a few weeks in the puppy socializing class.

During the past years we made very good friends in the Rottweiler world, at shows, committee meetings, at training courses and Saturday training sessions. The Rottweiler world in all it’s aspects, is something that we enjoy as a family and we thank everybody accepting us as such. For the knowledge you share, the laughs and true friendships, we thank you all.

There are gold ships, there are silver ships, but the best ship is
FRIENDSHIP !!
